Today went okay, spirits were high, but the heat and hills of this Fleet Feet route just take an unexpected toll on my aging body. Kayra and I bravely jogged up and down the hills every time my handy vibrating interval watch told us to go (except I missed 15 seconds on the end of the trail portion).
By the time we got to the 10th mile, my ankles felt like they had starch in them. I GAVE UP and did not jog the next to last interval. We saved our jogtime for the downhill portion, right near the end. I want to be able to do my interval the entire distance. Kayra just skips along on her younger ankles, no complaints, no whining (unlike me!!)
This is the first day I have not been able to accomplish each interval. I feel like I wimped out.
Hills and heat, and advancing age. Came home, cold bath, 3 advil, and went to a high school graduation. On with my day, keep moving.
Come Monday, I will be out there again, on my shady street, testing the 47 yr. old ankles again. They don't feel too starchy during the week, on the shorter distances. Just Saturdays seem to stress them. And, maybe my shoe laces were tied a bit tighter than usual.
Maybe I need to purchase some attractive, strap on, ankle icer packs to wear to work each morning after my wog. I could wear them for an hour or so. Fashion statement!

Wimped out?! Are you kidding me? You did 10 miles today! Wimpy people don't do that! You did it!
Ditto what Robin said!
