The Joys of Raymond

Looking forward to Raymond. I am guessing the parking that morning might be a bit sketchy, so I will leave a bit earlier to make the 7:30 gathering time. The streets are narrow in Raymond, downtown and around the courthouse.

I left a phone message for a Raymond friend of mine, about how I would be actually visiting Raymond Sat. a.m. for the 10 K run, and that I would meet up with her afterwards. She calls me back, and just is totally in disbelief that I am participating in /training for a marathon. She congratulates me and says she will be looking for me.

Afterwards, looking/smelling really sweaty with a post-race goopy no-wash hairdo, I can enjoy a visit with her, and walk around the courthouse square, looking at all the goings on. Momma wants me to look for the Hinds Comm. College horticulture group to see if they "have huge elephant ear" plants for sale.

Maybe I will bring a fresh shirt to change into in my car afterwards. Maybe I will just not care and keep the visit short, and outside. Maybe I will not run into her husband, who NEVER misses an opportunity to make a rude comment to me about the 40 lbs I've gained since college.

Now why did I bring him up? Hopefully, he will not be part of my Raymond 10K experience. You would think a 47 yr. old woman would not be so sensitive and ignore his continued pointed rudeness. I will need extra endorphins on Saturday if I cross his path. I just cringe when I see him, even after 20 years.

Mark, maybe I need some confidence counseling!!!

I am right there with you! I posted a map with places to park, but if you "Know the big city"... the Raymond Baptist Church will be a good place. Registration and check in will be at the "old out of business" Raymond Hardware and not the courthouse according to the chamber pres.

See ya there...
PS... This 45 year old gets those comments too only it is about twice the lbs!!! I am from Raymond so there will be many that "Knew me when"!!! At least in my case it won't be a shock to most of them... just a chance... BUT HEY... next years race will come AFTER our FIRST MARATHON and we will be lookin' FINE!!! :)

See ya there!

He's a jerk! Forget him. If he comments, you can ask him if HE'S training for a marathon!

Ditto, Christa!

Better yet, don't give him the time of day!

I was going to say the same thing Christa did. don't let him get to you, you are a marathoner and he is not.
