I did my miles at Strawberry patch in Madison. I "slept in" until about 6, and started at 6:32 a.m. at the park. It was rather cool, VERY shady, and there were lots of people there, coming and going.
About the 16 cents, those of you who know Strawberry know it is very curvy, and keeping up with how many times around you go could be a problem, if you are going 16 times around. So, I grabbed 16 pennies from my car change holder, as I had forgotten to bring dog biscuits. Every time I made another mile, and was back at the starting point, I dropped a penny. That way I could see my progress, the pile of pennies in my handy belt pocket grew smaller. I don't have a Garmin or a shoe thingy, and my watch does not show me miles. Its actually sort of fun to have my little ritual of dropping something when I "pass go". Dog biscuits are more environmentally friendly, but today it was pennies.
I felt 100 percent strong again, even tho my face still has a bit of swelling. It felt so good to be able to go a mile, then another. I was thankful for each mile.I was walking along with another lady for a while, and she was saying how her goal was 4 miles and that it was 'really hard' to do 4 miles. I told her my goal this morning was 16. She said "6?". No, I told her, 16. She was appropriately impressed, and told me to "go for it!!"
I walked, and walked. NO jog interval for me. Tho, I have emailed with Wayne Jiminez about looking at my ankles. It took me 5 HOURS to complete 16 miles. Now that is ALOT of time.
However, I am learning patience in this, and am "completing, not competing." Such a good motto for me. WALKERS UNITE!

WOW!!!! Now that is determination! You go, girl. That is soooo awesome that you did it. And I'm so glad you're feeling better.
The penny idea was a very, very smart idea!
Clark and I saw you at the Park again as we left Lakeshore. You looked great! Hope you will join us again soon!

Congratulations on doing sixteen! Great idea to use pennies to count the miles. Don't worry about time, just run your own race. Isn't it fun to see people's reaction when you tell them how much mileage you're doing? You're doing great!
Amy, I do Strawberry alot and "have gotten confused" about how many times I have been around. The penny idea is great! Gee, you sure have a lot of determination to do it "almost alone" and on such a somewhat boring trail! Congrats to you!!!!!!!!!!
I have tried "jogging" just a Bitty bit. Still not going much. I hurt more today after yesterday too. I think I am too heavy to jog really. I think my feet are REALLY screaming at me. My left middle toes are having convulsions... A friend told me that my left foot is trowing me "the bird"! What kind of friend is that really! I know there is a fine line between pushing yourself to the max and listening to your body..... I am trying to find my way. Stamina wise I did better yesterday, but the itsy bitsy jog does make different muscles ache. I feel like I am a WALKER ... I just keep going 3 or 7 steps of jogging maybe once an hour.... Ha ha ha ha ha
I'm so glad that someone finally understands "complete, not compete." It is totally amazing that you did 16 at Strawberry! The penny thing is great - my 73-year old mom is walking 2 miles every morning but the track she walks on takes several times around to equal a mile. She puts jelly beans in her pocket and eats one each time she "passes go." When her pocket is empty, she's finished her 2 miles! Keep up the good work!

I like the penny idea too. Although Shelia's Mom's idea of eating jelly beans might be better (ha!).
I have just about given up on the idea of running for the Marathon. I just really don't want to. I am happy walking, I walk a pretty good pace, and it's so much easier on the body. I think I agree with Lisa (Belive in Miracles) that I need to lose some more weight before I try to run much. I do, eventually, want to be able to run 5 and 10K races, but a marathon? Nah! I'll walk. So maybe we can be walking buddies in Chicago. My pace is about 3.8 mph. Can't get to 4 mph consistently while walking but can do 3.8. Of course in Chicago where it's flat and hopefully cooler, maybe I can pick up the pace a little.
BTW -- I noticed on your profile you tag yourself as the sedentary sister of Queen -- you need to change that since you're a marathoner now.
That's great Amy! When are you going to join us again? We miss you.
